Am not dead. Honestly.

It's funny, I only seem to work up the enthusiasm to post on this journal when I have a proper fannish obsession. And I certainly have one now, which may have a lot to do with the casting of the new Doctor. Oh yes.

I'm not entirely sure when I feel out of love with the tenth doctor, but I seem to have skipped 'apathy' and skipped right onto 'passionate loathing'. My DW obsession was on the wane...until now. Because i've loved Matt Smith in everything i've seen him in and i'm seriously stoked for series 5, in an embarassingly fangirly way (squee!). I even love his terrible, terrible hair. Needless to say, this journal will doubtless be spent speculating, agonising over spoilers and praying to god that Moffat doesn't bring back bloody River Song.

This being me, I have of course decided that I simply MUST now see classic Who. And, this being me, i've started from the middle. And started listening to the audio's. Thinky thoughts to follow. Maybe. I'm halfway through a bottle of wine.

Elsewhere, Heroes continues to be awful in a morbidly-fascinating way (Much, it must be said, like ITV's Demons or 'Gene Hunt fights monsters in a dreadful accent'. Presumably the person who said yes to that pitch has been taken out the back and smited in an appropriate fashion).

And the world's most awesome pilot, Being Human has finally been made into a series. I was suspicious of the casting changes but I actually love new Mitchell far more than I love pilot-Mitchell. He's more engaging and less stereotypical vampire. I'm still on the fence about new Annie, who is sweet and charming...but alas, NOT the awesome Andrea Riseborough.
The tone of the show is still a little uneven, with the humour a bit shoe-horned in, but it's still the best thing to come out of the BBC for years and the best thing to come out of Bristol...ever.

So, that's me. Still aimless, still looking for a proper job. And going stir-crazy because my village is snowed in.

How are all YOU?

I enjoyed I'd do anything and Britain's got talent a lot more than Doctor Who tonight.

*Ducks to avoid being pelted with rotten fruit*

I feel like a bad fan...but the pacing was just excruciating. And I am ,in my heart, clearly really, really trashy.

My parents just offered to pay for me to go on holiday to New York. And offered to buy me a new car.

Um. Do I have a terminal disease that no-one has mentioned to me?

Right then. Decisions need to be made. Obviously I can't be trusted to make these myself.

Poll #1188891 I used to be indecisive but now i'm not so sure.

So, the Doctor's daughter. Perky, very perky. I hate perky. Don't judge me. And Donna continues to be amazing. Marry me Donna, you have lovely pre-Raphaelite hair and an amazing cleavage...

What have I been doing with myself? Working mainly. Its horrible. And i've decided that i'm going to be a supply teacher next year instead of getting a permanent class which has taken a lot of pressure of. The prospect of teaching no longer makes me need to breathe into a paper bag and have a sit-down. Hallelujah.

I also saw Persepolis )

There is still a distinct lack of confirmation of Torchwood series 3, although all parties involved seem to feel that we will get TW in some form - just a bit DIFFERENT from what we're used to. Needless to say, all I demand is boy-kissing and plenty of Ianto - my needs are simple and shallow.

I've recently been devouring The Tudors, which makes me exceedingly happy. Yes, sometimes it does bafflingly inaccurate things (Henry's sisters: merged into one) but I find if you have a large enough glass of wine then you can sit back and enjoy the political intrigue, the filthy sex and general incompetence that makes the TW crew look efficient.

At the other end of the scale, i've also been watching Greek, which is about the fraternities and soroties at a fake American university. Its really, really fluffy and oddly compelling and I watched 12 episodes in 24 hours. Addictive doesn't even begin to cover it. And yes, I have no life, I think that goes without saying.

Did anybody else watch Being human? It was one of the best things i've seen for ages - Intelligent, funny, compelling, slashy...Commission it bbc3!

And it had good lines:
"I think i'd quite like to be a Hufflepuff - They look like they spend their time making things using safety scissors and glitter"

"You win 10 million pounds. What do you do?"
"Buy Colin Firth!"

I just wanted to say something about Ashes to ashes )

Oh, and Torchwood 2.07 )

ETA: And does anybody know where Being Human is set? It looks REALLY familiar...

There's going to be an Arrested development film?! Eeeeeee! What with that and the Dead like me film we're getting soon my little heart is stirring with love for forgotten shows.

Um. Would it be very wrong of me to buy one of these?

Ha. There's a man that knows his fanbase!

So. I want to avoid the mountains of planning I have to so am going to skulk off to the IOE library tomorrow instead. Anyone got any suggestions for stuff to in London whilst i'm there?

Skins 2.01 was brilliant. It amazes me that people still sneer at it and write it off as a gratuitous teen drama without giving it a go because...yes. Just yes. It does have heart. and awkwardness. and growth.

So...if Torchwood is the angsty, filthy form of fanfiction, is Primeval the crack-tastic kind written by 13 year olds on ff.net with badly spelt summaries?

Also: I hate my teaching practice. I wanted to be an academic or work in post-production - what made me think I could cope with teaching?! Aargh...

Wel, i'm back...

...How are you all? How are we all surviving the tv free 'winter of discontent'? I've found I haven't really had any inspiration to post...until now. And its thanks to that bad boyfriend of fandom, Torchwood . Oh yes. It will confuse you, stomp on your heart and make you throw coasters...but now, its actually got QUITE GOOD!

Because, i'm lazy, have a list:

1) Heroes is failing to download. This displeases me immensley. *Kicks Bit torrent. hard*

2) I am in love with Chuck. Its not perfect (Morgan, I mean you) but it has a huge amount of dorky charm, a great soundtrack and Zachary Levi. Mmmm...

3) So...Dumbledore is gay? Hilarious! Well played Jo, you Machiavellian genius you - canon homosexuality from a character no-one wants to write slash about!

4)I have so much work to do. Instead, i'm sitting here eating a family size bag of M'n'M's and reading go fug yourself. I lose at life.

5) There is no number five - lists, you're doing them wrong! Except to say that I spent a morning trying to narrate my own life a la Pushing daisies. Its harder than it looks.

ETA: Deb's new man on Dexter is called GABRIEL - That has to be a cute little serial killer in-joke, right?
